Wellgen Medical Signs MOU with NHRI to Advance Digitalization of National Infectious Diseases Bank
Jun.04,2026

Wellgen Medical recently visited the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology, part of Taiwan's National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), holding in-depth discussions with Director Dr. Yee-Chun Chen and the institute's research team. Both parties have now signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), formally initiating collaboration on the digitalization of the National Infectious Diseases Bank (NIDB) and related technology applications.

Established by the institute, NIDB is dedicated to the collection and study of infectious disease specimens, pathogens, and their derivatives in Taiwan, with core activities spanning strain preservation, genetic sequencing, animal studies, and international collaboration with biological resource centers—having joined an international culture collection organization in 2024, with facility construction now complete and laboratory validation scheduled for 2026.

This partnership will introduce Wellgen's patented tomographic cytology scanning technology to support digital inventory, image archiving, and data management for NIDB's specimens and microbial resources. Through high-resolution, multi-focal-plane imaging, the collaboration aims to improve research efficiency, cross-institutional data sharing, and long-term tracking, laying a stronger data foundation for infectious disease research and digital microbiology.

Building on this MOU, both parties will continue combining NHRI's research strength in infectious diseases and national biomedical resource management with Wellgen's expertise in digital cytology—accelerating the digital transformation of Taiwan's infectious disease research infrastructure and extending Wellgen's mission of "AI-Assisted Diagnosis" into public health.
